Notes from the Sunny Island #6 – Sun for Life: One Year in the Rhythm of Light
It has been almost a year since the first article was published on Sun for Life. This past year has been a time of building the project, organizing knowledge, and observing how light truly influences our everyday functioning.
The beginning of spring feels like a natural moment to pause, reflect on this journey, and at the same time set new directions.
Sun for Life has, from the very beginning, been a project with a clear direction. I wanted to create a space to talk about light, not only in the context of skin or tanning, but more broadly: as a factor that has a real impact on our health, daily rhythm, and the way we function every day.
Equally important to me has been the process of deepening knowledge, exploring historical perspectives, and seeking inspiration from people for whom light truly matters, and who have experienced how powerful it can be in supporting transformation.
By the end of March, it will be one year since the first article was published. It has been a time of developing this idea, organizing knowledge, and gradually building my own perspective on light and its role in our lives.
A Year of Building and Structuring
This first year has, above all, been a process. A process of gathering knowledge, having conversations, analyzing research, and confronting different perspectives, often very far apart. On one side, there is a narrative based on fear of the sun. On the other, an approach that overlooks potential risks. Sun for Life was created to find a space in between. Not simplification, but context. Not extremes, but balance. Over time, it has become increasingly clear to me that this approach is needed.
Light as a Part of Everyday Life
One of the most important shifts during this time has been seeing light not as a single action, but as an element of everyday life.
It is not only about sun exposure. It is about:
- when we are exposed to light,
- how long,
- in what context,
- and how our body responds to it.
Light influences our circadian rhythm, sleep, energy levels, focus, and overall well-being. This is not just theory. It is a process that takes place every day, whether we pay attention to it or not.
People and Co-Creation
From the beginning, this project has been shaped by people.
Conversations, interviews, meetings, and shared experiences have been an essential part of this journey.
A special place in this process is held by Maximus, the project’s partner, who makes it possible to connect knowledge with practical, industry-based experience.
Because of this, Sun for Life does not remain only a theoretical space. It can actively educate and support a more balanced approach to light.
A Moment of Transition: Spring
The fact that the project’s anniversary falls at the beginning of spring is not without meaning to me. Spring does not arrive suddenly. It is not a clear line between one stage and another. It is a process. Light returns gradually – first in brief moments that we need to notice and make use of.
This image comes back to me strongly when I look at photos from Crete at this time of year. The White Mountains are truly white – covered in snow, raw and striking. And at the same time, below them, you can already feel the shift. The air is different, the light is warmer, the days are longer. The warmth is not yet obvious, but it is already present.
This is the moment in between, when on one side we still see winter, and on the other we can already feel that something is changing. And this is exactly what the first year of Sun for Life has been like. Not a sudden breakthrough, but a process that developed gradually, like light returning after winter.
After moving back to Poland in the second half of 2025, I began to experience this even more clearly. Light is not constant here, it appears and disappears. And so I am learning to consciously notice and use it in everyday moments.
New Directions
The first year has been a foundation. The next stage is growth, but built on what has already been created.
In the coming months, Sun for Life will continue to develop in several areas:
- further development of blog content focused on light,
- education and training: practical application of knowledge, with a stronger connection to my daily work and the growing educational program for tanning salons,
- new content formats, and deeper integration of science and practice.
This is a natural step forward.
Thank You
If you are here, reading, listening to the podcast, following along, you are part of this journey. Thank you. For your presence, your openness, and your willingness to look at light in a broader way.
With gratitude,
