Sunny Podcast #3 – Marta & Wojciech: Courage, Health and a New Life in the Cretan Sun
What happens when the body starts sending signals that can no longer be ignored?
In the third episode of the Sunny Podcasts, I speak with a couple who, after seventeen years in Scotland, decided to begin their life again from the ground up. Their story is one of serious illness, courage, and a single decision that changed everything.
Podcast by Ania D. – Sunforlife.info
In the latest episode of the Sunforlife.info Sunny Podcasts, I sit down with Marta and Wojciech, a couple who reached a point where their everyday life no longer supported their health or well-being. Fatigue and the first signs of illness forced them to pause and ask a difficult question: Is this really the life we want to be living? Their search for answers eventually led them all the way to Crete.

When Symptoms Speak Louder Than Diagnoses
For a long time, Wojciech kept returning from medical appointments with the same explanation: stress, fatigue, food poisoning. Yet the stomach pain, back pain and constant exhaustion continued to intensify. His body was signalling that something was wrong. It wasn’t until he met one doctor who truly listened that things changed. She sent him to the hospital, and that’s where they discovered a kidney tumour requiring immediate surgery.
That moment became the final warning sign for Marta and Wojciech, and the beginning of real change. “More and more people around us were getting seriously ill. We started asking ourselves: Is this really supposed to be normal?” they recall.
Where Life Moves to a Different Rhythm
They had travelled widely before, sensing that somewhere out there they could live more calmly and more healthily. But it was a spontaneous trip to Crete that shifted everything. The light, the food, the nature, and above all, the people. On Crete, relationships mattered. There was time for them. There was space for them. And that was exactly what had been missing in their life in Scotland.
A Courageous Decision
The decision came quickly. Just two weeks after returning from their holiday, they put their house up for sale. The change meant leaving their jobs, learning new skills, rethinking their entire lifestyle and carrying the responsibility for their daughter Zosia’s future, but intuition was stronger than fear.
A New Life in Crete
Today, they live on the island, work together in marketing, and support local initiatives. The biggest change? Health and presence. “We finally live together, not just next to each other,” they say.
Sunlight has played a major role in Wojciech’s recovery. He reminds us: “It’s simple. Vitamin D boosts immunity, quality of life, and mood. And yet so many people still underestimate it.”
What Do They Say to Those Afraid of Change? Their Advice:
Listen to your body, it speaks first.
Start with small steps: movement, sunlight, fresh air.
Travel. Meet people. Stay open to new experiences.
Be present; live in the here and now.
Take care of your health; without it, nothing else works.
Have courage, change is worth the effort.
Light as a Beginning
Marta and Wojciech’s story is a reminder that health starts with everyday choices, and that real change often begins the moment we start listening to our own bodies. It also shows that sunlight can act as a guide, pointing us back toward balance and better health.

Marta & Wojciech
Meet Marta, Wojtek and Zosia – a family connected by a deep bond, a love for simple and healthy living, and a natural curiosity about the world. Life unfolded a path for them that exceeded anything they had imagined, leading them to a place where sunlight, warm temperatures and genuine human kindness create space for growth, calm and everyday gratitude. They value authenticity, openness and warmth, both in climate and in relationships. They are drawn to places where nature and human life move in harmony, and where the rhythm of the day follows what feels natural. Their values revolve around simplicity, health and conscious choices that support the body, the spirit and their family connection. A meaningful part of their journey has been expanding their horizons through different cultures and languages. They believe the world itself is the best school – a space that teaches openness, courage, dialogue and respect. They trust that all these elements, and many more, directly shape both the quality and the length of a human life.
